Nymphea odorata (lily), gouache
On cave walls or canvas, mankind has created images by chiseling stone, scrawling with charcoal, smearing mud, brushing oil paints and acrylics.  No other known earthly creature does similarly.  There are no crow paintings, no chimp murals, no fish illustrations.  Perhaps this is one of the few traits that truly separates humans from the rest of animalia.
Shown here are a few of the images I've created over the years.  There is no question about my fascination for flowering plants;  their beauty, tenacity, variability, and color make an easy metaphor for the human species itself.
These paintings are all done in gouache (an opaque water color), except for the Angel Fish (upper left), which existed only as black lines on paper before the limited-edition press brought color to its life, and life to color.
