This page is titled "Home and Garden Accessories," but there are less important things than sinuous paths that invite you into the garden, seats that are warm enough to throw off winter, or arbors that attract visitors for garden gossip.  These are not "accessories," but necessities.  Now, if you can just convince your spouse...

After a long day in the office, taking care of kids or others,  rushing through rush-hour to get home, there's nothing like taking a moment upon arriving to inhale the smells, sights, and touch of familiarity.  Take a moment.  Don't hurry in.  Enjoy it.  "Arrival" should bring with it a hug, even if it's just a visual one.

Kitchen drawers with custom inlay Carved capitols for adobe home in Lyons, CO
Copper-topped counters, inlaid doors and drawers, carved images over the family fireplace, sculpted door pulls...  All sound like something for the rich and ostentatious?  By no means. Pleasure comes from  beauty, and beauty never has been the province only of a few.  Wouldn't you like your home to welcome you when you return from the rat race?  Even if you've just been on vacation, wouldn't the comfort of a few beautiful things help to continue that feeling of relaxation you just left?  During your lifetime you deserve just a few special things.

Does the character of a home come from its contents or from the home itself -- the style and design?  Both, no doubt.  But too many modern homes are little more than a plywood box into which one inserts oneself and belongings.  The metaphor to examine is your body.  Does clothing alone make the body, or is the flesh and bones a critical part of the character?  So, too, should a home be given, or allowed to have this character.
