Curly maple veneer is inlaid in the center
of a bookmatched solid cherry top. Then a slender border of bloodwood
was cut in around the maple. The lacquer finish is hand polished.Because I wished to use artist's acrylics for the spots, I did a dozen tests on various black paints to assure good adhesion. |
This table was first named the Spots-Before-Your-Eyes
table for the obvious reason, but it looked so much like an animal, a slender
strong gazelle or pronghorn antelope, I finally gave it two names. Which
would you use?The joint where leg meets table top is a double lap -- table top laps over leg on the sides while legs lap over the top above and below. This resulted in a very strong, rigid joint. |
